I tried googling and found a few links on the Quantaray brand.
My advice since you have a D200, go for Nikon lenses. If it's a 70-300 you're looking at, get the new 70-300VR.

I agree with TJ...your D200 will look way COOL with Nikon Lenses on it...It may be a little expensive but you get your MONEY's worth...:)

I have a quantaray that came as a kit lens for my elan 7E, and all I can say is if you are really really really on a tight budget, then get it. Otherwise follow what TJ and Jake says.

I read some forums about this lens and they joke about it. Someone said after Canon assembles their L lenses, quantaray comes in and sweeps the floor and makes their lenses out of the remaining pieces. Isn't that cruel?

I believe Quantaray is a marketing line and does not manuafactuure their own lenses. They source their lenses and accessories from other manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron, Tiffen, etc. That being the case the quality of individual products may vary.

In your case you have the benefit of trying the actual lens, if it performs well and you are happy with it then go ahead and buy it, Don't let the brand dissuade you. :)

thanks for the input guys, made up my mind and will settle for the all around "one lens does it all" the new nikon 18-200VR that will soon hit the markets. :)

The quantaray is nice but i find it too heavy and looks a li'l "primitive" with its rubber hood :D
