Your friend must be really close to the owners of Leica. The M8 is not even out on the market yet and your friend already has one?

Maybe din was mistaken? Maybe an M7 or an MP?
There are M8s circulating around already though, about 30 units I think that were initially sent out for testing :D

You can knock someone unconcious with it and it wont even dent the lens:D Know what guys, as much as I love photography, I can't stand carrying my gear!! The M8 was made for me I swear! Unfortunately, the price tag is killing my dreams for now! GRR!

unfortunately i settled for the infamous noct.

Are you referring to the 58? That's one great glass. Unfortunately, only a few copies were made due to prohibitive cost at the time. You're lucky if you found one in very good condition. All the other siblings are poor pretenders...

Never encountered an M series with autofocus. You must be referring to another line as AF (aut-of-focus) is counter-intuitive to the M philosophy. Fortunately, this did not prevent shooters like Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, David Alan Harvey, Ralph Gibson, Tina Manley, Ernst Haas from bringing to us images of the world. Check out this website: www.magnumphotos.com for starters. :)

I passed on the chance to own an M3 back in the 80s... I was young and in love with the Nikon F2 at the time. I miss Photo Grapho and chatting with Tong Ng (?) at Lyric Photo!
