Thanks!

It was tough, but I think I definately gave my gear a workout since all my CF cards were full (never happened before), all my glass got time on the body, all the batteries were drained and even the tripod got some action.

Thanks Jay

Glad to help.

@TJ

I posted them here because as far as technique goes, it's almost what one would use shooting a basketball game;

High ISO
High Speed Shooting
AI-Servo focusing

I also employed different Sync speeds for the flash to be able to achive some of the 2nd curtain / Multi strobe shots.

As for the zooming while exposing, that's a trick I saw lots of times, it's just that this particular instance seemed quite appropriate to use it.

Let's face it, shooting in a pack of 15-20 photographers, you gotta pull out some tricks to make your shots stand out and that's what I always want to do.

When shooting at this environment, you also have to know your camera quite intimately since you don't want to waste time guessing how to change settings (and in the dark I may add).

Low light focusing has always been difficult for any AF camera, so best to turn it off. At one point I already got the face shots I wanted so I swapped lenses to an ultrawide since these lenses have an enormous DOF. I just set the camera to infinity and blazed away.

For the panning zoom shots, it's important to hold off moving the zoom ring for a fraction of a second to get at least some basis for the start of the sequence. If I set the shutter for 1.5 seconds, start rotating the zoom ring around half a second when the shutter opens.

I have gained newfound respect for those who shoot action/sports from this experience since it seems it does really demand a lot from your gear.
