View Full Version : Columbia Digital (Nikon Philippines) Development 9/14/06
Anderson Tan 09-14-2006, 08:45 PM As of 9/14/06:
SERVICE SERVICE:
1. We now have loaner units for Nikon pro users who will have their DSLR's repaired for a period of time. Pro users, meaning those who use their DSLR to make a living (i.e. wedding photographers, studio photographers, news journalists, etc.). Just present a valid ID, calling card and sign a memorandum of agreement.
2. We will still be servicing grey market Nikon DSLR, lenses and Coolpix units due to popular demand but with a surcharge of 30% from the bill. We really have to discourage grey market and thus have to charge a LOT higher.
3. We will be servicing Nikon DSLR, lenses, Coolpix units bought from other countries providing that there is an international warranty and proof of purchase abroad (Sales Invoice) with a surcharge of 10% from the bill.
4. Lenses with international warranty will be absorbed by Columbia Digital excluding freight cost and customs duties if needed to be shipped to Nikon HK for repair.
5. New diagnosis time of your DSLR will be maximum of 5-7 WORKING DAYS.
6. Spare parts prices have already been reduced 5-10% on all spare parts.
7. We have started to stock ample spare parts by placing a huge order today for frequently consumed spare parts.
8. I think I've mentioned that we already purchased a LOT of new tools and equipment from Nikon HK.
9. We will be sending 2 new techs to Nikon HK in October for training.
10. We will be coming out with a Nikon Pro card before the year ends. This will feature discount on camera services.
Each passing day, the Sith grow in number...

carlos ramirez 09-14-2006, 10:48 PM Anderson,
This is really great news for Nikon users! I am not sure if this has already been answered previously, so I hope you won't mind the question, I bought my unit from Columbia Photo in Cubao, will you service this without any surcharge? I am not sure how the split will affect persons who purchased previously from Columbia.
Thanks for taking charge in improving Nikon service here in the Philippines, it is really great news for us.

paul borromeo 09-24-2006, 08:34 AM hi anderson,
thank you for these developments. i believe you deserve much credit in bumping up customer service by going above and beyond.
just to share, my personal experience in having my 18-200 VR serviced. No more thuds guys!
i was expecting it to be a long while for the lens to be back as it had to be sent to Hong Kong. Anderson and his crew found a way to cut the time by hand carrying my lens to hong kong and bringing it back with them.
now i have the lens back. all my issues are gone and the loose rubber which was not part of my formal repair request was also repaired.
thank you for making the effort and providing great customer service.
you have a new client on board!
cheers.

Anderson Tan 09-26-2006, 02:41 AM Thanks mga kapatid... Mabuhay ang NIKON!!!
raymund_madronero 09-26-2006, 06:12 AM Wow! That's great to hear...
I was in Columbia Digital yesterday to have the hot shoe of my SB-28 replaced and my 28-105 lens cleaned of fungus and checked for focusing problems. I was told that it would take at least seven (7) days starting today before they can call me about the lens. I was told also that this is already an improvement coz before it takes them 14 days. I was wondering coz when I had the shutter mechanism of my D100 repaired a few years back (with the old Columbia Global), it took only 3 days to get it back.
Anyway, am not really complaining coz the customer service ladies were beautiful and very accommodating. ;-)
I just hope that the repair process can be shortened...
Kudos to Anderson for really taking time to listen to the woes of Nikon users....
Mabuhay ka!!!

:D All I was able to say was, what's the number to call para mangulit about the repairs? On second thought, I should have asked for a cell number...
nap_alcedo 09-26-2006, 09:26 AM Now I have a reason to go there soon. I have to check on the flash system for macro photography. He he he.
Richard Ledesma 09-26-2006, 10:04 AM Pwede ba shutter finger for repair? kahit di na mga qualified technician yung front desk lang. :D
Carlo R. Lopez 09-26-2006, 10:08 AM will be sending a portrait lens with the aperture blades misaligned for servicing, it will be interesting how this pans out
Aaron_Manila 09-26-2006, 05:42 PM Hi guys. Im still on the process of deciding what DSLR to buy. And actually, one of the main reasons why i'm holding back on getting myself a Nikon is because of the lack of Local Customer Support as compared to Canon (and so I've heard). But after reading your posts here, and seeing how Columbia Digital is responding, I think the dark side of the force is getting a stronger pull for me after all!

raymund_madronero 10-03-2006, 08:27 PM With Anderson out of town... he attended the Photokina, right? ( read it somewhere)... here's a little update and a welcoming message as he comes back on the items I sent for repair/cleaning at Columbia Digital.
I called them up to follow up on the items I sent for repair last week:
1. It took me some time to get through... it was already 10 am and have been calling since 9 am... apparently, some of their lines have not yet been restored by PLDT... ok, I understand.
2. The lady at the other side of the line, was very courteous and "understanding" of my situation... good point...
3. I was told that I have to wait at least another week because the hotshoe replacement for the SB-28 has not arrived yet... arrrgghhh... is this partly to be blamed to Milenyo?
4. The lens I was having cleaned and repaired for focusing problems has not been seen by a technician yet... arrgghhh...
5. Prior to sending those items, I sent an email to camera_tech@columbiadigital.net requesting quote for the repair of the hotshoe, I was quoted a certain amount for "parts and labor". I suppose that normally when they get a hotshoe for repair, this usually means replacement, right? When I asked the lady on the other line, how much will the repair cost, it was almost double the amount I was quoted in the email. ( I won't mention the amount na lang.) Ano ba talaga? When one says "parts and labor" isn't that encompassing already? I would understand if there were other parts replaced. Anyway, they would call me pa naman to confirm the cost of repairs and the cleaning.
I am not yet complaining... just airing my woes... hehehe...

Our phone lines have been recently restored. We got hit by the typhoon real hard. Some of my staff didn't make it to the office for a couple of days. All incoming shipments have been delayed due to the typhoon. Not only with Columbia Digital but with all other companies that are importing. I will have our manager get back to you on this.
raymund_madronero 10-04-2006, 06:06 AM Thank you Anderson... you're back na pala...
Your presence is the forum really brings light to the dark side....

Anderson Tan 10-22-2006, 10:37 PM Is Columbia Megamall an official drop off point for service of Columbia Digital? Thanks
Nope. That's a disauthorized service center. Please don't have your DSLR's serviced there. Thank you.

Ei Andy,
Can you post which of the Columbia's are officially connected with Columbia Digital?
Aside from Megamall, there's one in Cubao and one in Hidalgo, right?
BTW, I was at Columbia-Cubao last Friday afternoon (around 1 pm) looking for some accessories like BR-2A, BR-5 and MC-30. Ikaw ba yung gwapo dun? I was kinda shy to ask eh.
Thanks.
nap_alcedo 10-23-2006, 06:35 AM Here's a picture. Anderson is one of the many "gwapos" there.

Right now, no Columbia branches are associated with Columbia Digital. I will be making Hidalgo a drop off point soon. I don't hang out in Cubao. :)

nap_alcedo 11-08-2006, 06:53 PM I had my D70 serviced in Columbia Digital HQ and all I can say is that the service is superb. Of course, this is the first time that I tried their service so I can't compare it to previous ones but I am very satisfied with my first experience. The girls, Glenda and Candy are likewise very accomodating, as well as JR, and the other technicians whose names slips my mind right now. Thanks a lot and more power. Now, anyone out there who needs a second body?

Dear Ito,
Good day! I would like to inquire regarding the rubber grip of D200 because there's a lot of complaints that we received wherein the rubber grip fell off. Would you consider those cases FOC for parts. Thanks.
Regards,
Ramil
Let's wait for Nikon's reply. :)
