View Full Version : MPEX Strobist Kit
jasonmiraples 01-22-2008, 09:50 AM I am fairly new to product photography and am looking for some general tips on getting the best images for my upcoming catalog to include pet toys. Looking through similar catalogs I get the feeling that the image of say a toys looks so real and i want to pick it up of the page!!
I assume that lighting is the key, I have a problem achieving the same result perhaps because i get some ambient light creeping in.
What do you think about this Kit guys?
http://www.mpex.com/page.htm?PG=Strobist%20Kits
From products I also want to use it into my wireless photography such as Portraiture.
Let me know if its worth it for amateur who wants to be a Strobist or let me say a-low-budget projects/hobby?
And would like to know if online buying is safe? I heard some that they had a bad experience on placing order online in Midwest.
Thanks guys in advance.
Happy Valentine!

You can check with Aperture Trading... they sell strobist kits but without the flash. Or go to Henry's at Quiapo... they have a bunch of light equipment there too..
jasonmiraples 01-23-2008, 03:01 PM Thanks Sir Dexter! I hope to see you in Strobist Seminar 2
Anyway, just wanna know if its the same packages from Midwest? And also I was thinking if I can get it more cheaper or more expensive?
dexterchua 01-23-2008, 03:10 PM Well if you order online from the US, shipping itself will cost you a pretty penny. Chances are, it would be cheaper to get it here.
And strobist seminar 2? when? when?

Jason,
Is it a repeat of our strobist eb? I think its still in the concept stage, nothing solid yet. But in case you get to know of one let us know. I attended a strobist theory and pratice last sunday with the other forum and it was informative and fun. It was a wet day though. Also am waiting for something to materialize. Check out what Dexter said about a set from Aperture, I think its around 3,800 including a set of trigger and receiver. I think there is no need to buy on-line, there are lots here.
:)
jasonmiraples 01-23-2008, 03:49 PM Yes it is and still in the process.
Really! Where? I miss that one? (Phipho?)
I need to check it out first.
I'm considering the most easiest and wisest way to save my money. Bilang anak ng isang mag-lu-lupa (Son of a Farmer) spending money is one of my biggest issue.
As a newbie and aspiring amateur, just wondering guys if its much more cheaper if I buy the packages in aperture (the 3,800 something) or buy the packages one by one either in aperture or in Henry's?
What do you think mga Sir?
Sherwin Andal 02-09-2008, 05:26 AM Jason,
First thing I want to say is: They really did a good job in naming their packages. :D
Second, this will be a good start for strobist wannabes, and Vivitar is also a good brand. :)
Then, this is my choice: Starving Student Wireless Kit (SW1) (budgetwise - unless there's a good reason why I should grab the one with pocket wizards which is a drill in the pocket)
josephnoelreyes 02-09-2008, 07:22 PM hope i can join you guys in the next strobist thing.

Thank you sir! :) Yes actually that is the one that I've been thinking to buy but I think locally.

Why order online, wherein you can visit Tayhua's web site and all you need is there for a small amount of money. Plus, you can pick it up at anytime rather than waiting. By the way, they deliver also.

I'm interested in their Lumopro flash only. It's available locally but it's too expensive. I'm trying to compute for the cheapest solution.
I've visited Tayhua's site, and I agree, you only need "a small amount". I'll buy from them after I get the flashes.
David Tong 11-18-2009, 01:04 PM Because MPEX stuff is a lot higher in quality than TayHua, that's one major reason to get from them instead of China stuff from TayHua.
FYI: There's a local Phil dealer for most MPEX stuff, hhttp://camtradeph.multiply.com/
CornellCorales 11-18-2009, 02:12 PM camtrade's price on Lumopro flashes are too expensive... its nearly double the price (well understandable since they must have had to pay for shipping expenses) but for PhP10500 thats too much for a manual strobe... might as well get a modded Di622 for less cash...
David Tong 11-18-2009, 03:03 PM Yup, taxes and import duties are killer since he'll be importing from the US and not from HK/Asia where it's easier to "under-declare" the goods...
