Hello guys, would you recommend a very good RIP software for these printers? I have heard of EFI Designer Edition for Mac though I find it kinda expensive. Would there be a better alternative?

I'm using a mac.

Thanks po.

I was under the impression that with a RIP software for large format printers, colors and image is almost 99% exactly printed. Am i right po?

RIP software doesn't come cheap, but they do improve your workflow a lot. Try shopping around (even international). Some software has their upside and downside.

You are right sir, one dealer here has approached me and offered something which I find really expensive. I think the support and training bundled with it made it more expensive.

Been there done that. If you are willing to put the time and effort into a RIP, and also don't mind spending the money, then they could benefit your printing. By how much? That depends on how much effort you put into it and also what kind of RIP you purchase.

My advice, you would probaby benefit more with good profiling gear such as Gretag Eye One or Color Vision Print Fix Pro. These spectros along with their software can help write icc profiles that can influence how your printer prints colors.

The other thing I learned through the last four years printing, is that its not so much the printer anymore. Its the quality of the file that matters most. Garbage in garbage out.

you have a solid point sir nick. So instead of going on the route of using RIP which could really rip my budget, go to a color profiler (hardware to profile my monitor) and just use photoshop cs2? sir if you don't mind me asking, what is the print workflow for your 7800?

thanks

Kristoffer ditch the rip. You probably aren't going to be a print for pay studio. Also realize that if you buy a rip, you are now going to need to also invest in profiling gear. Remember that RIPS bypass the Epson driver so if you ever decide to use a different paper other than Epson, you will need to profile it yourself. That means a double investment.

Stick with Epson paper, use the Epson driver, and purchase a monitor calibrator. That is the most simple and cost effective way to go about it.

Suggest you start a new thread if you want printing workflow.

copy sir nick. i actually approach globis, they said that you got your 7800 from them and they've been offering EFI RIP.

i think it costs a lot too, like what you said, i guess i've to concentrate on the workflow with a calibrated monitor and printer.

I'll start a thread sir. thanks
