a client, an opthalmologist, asked me to shoot her eye to be used for her 18 ft X 28 ft billboard. I have no idea how to shoot it properly (what to use: lens, lighting, angle, etc). Pls feel free to comment on my pics below, and lighting techniques will be very much appreciated. The pics are only draft for my project.
big smile!

IMHO, the 2nd photo has a better composition and angle than the 1st one. But, skin tone is too light and some PP should be done on the eye's cornea. That's just me:Grin::Grin::Grin:

I do not fingd the light reflection appealing. Try using one softbox only. Afterall, the focus is just the eye only. No need for complicated lighting.
What is that red dot, trigger?
Do a frontal shot too. You can also use ring light for more interesting catchlight.
Just my opinion.

hi there pipo. :)
here are some of my thoughts.. since this is a very tight tight crop, i suggest if you can ask the make up artist to "clean" her eyebrows.. i mean, trim a bit on the right end of the eyebrow. :)
hmm.. how about a small smile.. i think it makes the eyes more accommodating and appealing. try to PP the eye's veins too since this would be in a billboard.
good luck! :)

hi rolando, definitely ring light is more appealing but i don't have one. i also have frontal shot.
the reflection of my softbox is also distracting.

I remember Uncle Basil once said during the workshop that when you want to highlight the eye(s), you have to "poke" a light directly so that the pupil will contract giving you more eye color.

Well i don't have fancy equipment when i shot my own eye. But this is my best capture with the most detail:

I tried a couple of angles to minimize the light reflection but failed to illuminate the eye properly. Best shot I got was placing the speedlight 30 degrees right from my eye. I shot this holding my camera on one hand, the speedlight on the other

Dexter, it will be nice if the eyebrow is included. That completes the eye. :D

hhehehe, you are right! But I went as close as possible to get as much detail but to my horror I found out that I had a lot of hole-like structures in in my iris!
In any case I had fun shooting my eye. But the friggin' flash made me see flashing light for a whole 30 minutes!

I guess it would have also looked better if the region at the camera's right was illuminated. But as you said, you didn't have fancy equipment when you shot it. :)
