Guys, I have to make a proposal for my bedspace shots.
How much should I charge per photo? The party concerned will be using it for marketing material. (read: magazine and press releases, tickets for events, drapes for ads)
They want me to cover their launch event but I dont have a flash unit for my cam so this might be hard. Should I charge a cut throat rate for this to compensate for my lack of equipment?

Lastly, they want me to do a menu. How much should I charge per photo? Thanks.

Anyone? Even just a rough estimate will help. Need to come up with a proposal for this project. Thanks.

A bit hard to do an estimate on this one Sonny...

You're a lucky guy though; charge wisely, specially if you lack gear--I think you need a Professional back-up you can trust IMO...

Can't you rent equipment there? You can ask your client to shoulder that cost.

Sonny-

I can't help much with the rates since I don't sell locally.

In addition to the use of your image, you should also always consider the length of time that they will be allowed to use the image (1 month, 1 year, perpetual, etc.).

If you think you can do the job adequately and professionally without a flash unit, you should charge then full price. If you really need the flash unit, rent one. If you think that quality will not be up to par without a flash and can't rent/borrow one, don't accept the job as you'll only hurt your reputation submitting less than professional products. Last, never offer "cut throat" prices as you not only hurt yourself but your colleagues as well.

Good luck.

If you don't have the right equiptment for the job i suggest you refer them to someone who is capable, has the right equipment & experience to the the particular job description.

Ikaw din masisira if you cannot deliver what is expected.

Just go for it. Everyone will have to take risks at least once in their life.

If you do refer a pro and HE doesn't deliver, you'll take a hit too. ;)

This is certainly one of those leverages you have elsewhere... People here kasi are most of the time: "cost-cutting" and "cost-allergic", but who's not right?!? However, other countries are just more aware and are sensitive to compensating creativity and costs that goes with it...

Go for it Sonny, lakasan ng loob lang yan, you'll learn along the way, you won't know what youre capable of unless you do the actual job..

The flash (you can borrow one), the costing (its all hit and miss, we dont even have a standard rate), etc. all have a solution..If you dont get the job, charge it to experience..

Just let go of that fear, dont let it immobilize you..Itll be all worth it after youve done the job..

What if he can't deliver a professional result? That's just the kind of stuff that give professionals a bad name.

In mu opinion, accepting a paid assignment isn't the place to learn. When one accept payment for a job, one is already guaranteeing professional result, otherwise, you're cheating your client.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Sir Nick,
Was just telling it to Sonny for encouragement..ive seen the bedspace photos of sonny in his gallery, i think theyre pretty good, i think his problem is his pricing, which i was pertaining to in the last post :) but i dont think it will hinder him from taking the job, i presume the client saw his shots thats why he was offered the job..In the end its still his reputation on the line and the clients option to hire him or not..

Thats why its a good idea that were pushing to have a certification system or a rating system for photographers like in other professionals..in the meantime, we only have our resume and portfolio to show..

Yup, felt that also... Maybe the Client was expecting "rock-bottom" price coz Sonny technically cannot demand a higher range based on factors known to his client...

... That's another lesson Sonny, if you're reading this... Disclose background info only on a need to know basis... "Less talk... Less mistakes"
