orlando_arcelao_jr 09-12-2006, 06:56 PM Just got this from a local photo club here in Saudi Arabia. Just wanted to share it here. Copyright goes to whoever took this photo.

dave_deluria 09-12-2006, 07:06 PM Nice... so in this instance, does one focus on their hands to be sure their relatives recognize them? I'm serious!
Earl Gonzalez 09-12-2006, 07:08 PM Wow that's what I call Black and White. :D

Sorry Dave. Can't answer you on that question.
In the first place, why would someone want to take pictures of themselves with their veils on? Oh well... Funny it seems but its their culture! :D
Tok Paler 09-13-2006, 12:48 AM Wow! i wonder if the guy knows about the ladies sticking their tongue at him =b
no offense! =)
neil.castano 09-13-2006, 02:29 AM to my knowledge -- saudi arabia is a muslim country and consider it very conservative. its a custom tradition for them and not for us. they do this everytime, they even swim with the black dress (abaya they call it). for sure they recognize themselves by some means, they really are good on this. am sure taking the picture of that group is a sign of trouble unless you have the nerve or you are a local person....hehehe! thanks for sharing the photo.
cheers,
neil
Nick_Espino 09-13-2006, 07:49 AM Just curious, does this forum allows posting images without the owner's consent? I believe that normal protocol is to provide link to the image rather than directly posting it.
reynald.ngo 09-13-2006, 07:57 AM Ayus yung isa... naka sneakers pa. :D
Amiel_Mercado 09-13-2006, 08:29 AM Wow that's what I call Black and White. :D
I beg to differ Earl, I think Black & only Black
Earl Gonzalez 09-13-2006, 08:46 AM I beg to differ Earl, I think Black & only Black
Yup I was considering that as well... However, the guy's pose in taking the snapshot really did make a lasting impression... :D
jose_deluna 09-20-2006, 07:41 PM Better be careful here guys... we may offend some of our Moslem brothers and sisters... I advise the moderators to ammend this posting if deemed necessary (sorry Orly, but this might not be a safe forum/place to display such image)... respetuhin din natin sila, and let's not make fun of their own cultural practices...
Looks like the photo was not taken from Saudi Arabia (i just noticed the lady at the right-back side, in sleeveless red shirt with shades; and the lady at the left back side in green shirt, bare-back), definitely walang ganyan sa Saudi Arabia.
dindin_lagdameo 09-20-2006, 08:55 PM I honestly feel that this thread is improper. First and foremost, other people's culture, traditions and religious beliefs shouldn't be a subject of humor. Secondly, the photo was posted without consent. Thirdly, it is offensive.
jake_borres 09-20-2006, 09:34 PM i also agree to ammend this thread
regie_de_rueda 09-20-2006, 09:53 PM The photo in itself is not offensive IMHO. The manner in which it was posted and some of the comments made by our fellow photographers made it offensive. It shows that some of our members lacks understanding and respect of other people's culture.
This is a photography forum so let's keep this forum free from religious, political and other stuff not related to 'taking pictures'.
neil.castano 09-20-2006, 10:41 PM this is offensive for our muslim brothers even you take photos of them (am sure of it).... imagine others are laughing at the photo...is that right? i dont think so..... this is a forum but has limitations. what if half or a few numbers of the members here are our muslim brothers...this will have a negative reaction for them...i studied the muslim culture and spend years with them and believe me this is improper. i rest my case.

I agree with you 100% that this is offensive BECAUSE the original poster and some of the comments made by some forum members made it appear that way. I still believe the picture in ITSELF is not offensive. As I've said, let's keep our political and religious view to ourselves. Let's talk PHOTOGRAPHY. Cheers!
Nick_Espino 09-21-2006, 11:18 AM It is offensive to the photographer for posting his/her image without his consent.
dindin_lagdameo 09-21-2006, 11:31 AM mods, we need you here...
Christopher Abeleda 09-21-2006, 03:22 PM I think this photo was taken not here in Saudi Arabia but in Lebanon. I guess its in Beirut Center. It was just restore a few years back and if you will notice in the background that there are lebanese cafes without the black "ABAYA".
Jeff Vergara 09-21-2006, 07:53 PM this picture was propagating in dubai thru email and it was also published in the news tabloid with some muslims venting frustrations about making fun of it. the picture is not improper since they were following their religious customs but the comments/captions attached to the email may have it been improper...
Carlo R. Lopez 09-21-2006, 09:04 PM the picture in itself in my opinion is not offensive period!!! like several posters here mentioned it is the interpretations and comments made that may make it improper or disrespectful simple as that. as long as things remain respectful and sensitive to the culture of others then there shouldnt be a problem.
