I used to be involve with those mobile sound systems & I love to build audio systems & speker baffles. I used to have a Technics SL1200 MK2 which i recently exhange with my friends Yamaha 5.1 amp + JBL 5.1 speakers but i havent had the chance to set it up yet :D

One time we had to setup a system here in hk costing around $hk700K & that's just an amp, CD palyer ( 3 layers) & bookshelf speakers only. the speaker wire's were like $hk2K/ meter - talk about photography being expensive :D

I still have about 5 of those sony mini- Hi-fi's stacked somewhere two of which are FH-7MKII.

BTW nice setup you've got there, I see you still have lot's of LP collections. some still fetch a good price at ebay.:)

sayang bakit mo pinalit yung technics mo.. legendary na yun.. daming nag hahanap nun.....
how much is $hk700k in peso or dollar? audiophile is aslo toys for big boys.. you can go up to million basta malalim bulsa mo.. :)
i spent 1200$ just for my amp using el34 tube amp :)

Hahaha yes it is extremely draining, hence i left out the audio in my car and just relied on the engine for in-car entertainment :D Haha I used to dream of those Focal Polyglass seps :D

Willy, I'll have to go with jimmy on this. You should have kept your Technics. Inspite of having a Clearaudio for those, "Audiophile" 180 gram collectibles, Duran Duran, 7th Avenue, Banana rama, sounds better with my Sony+Shure TT. Funny how honest and being correct with the "sound" of CA makes 80's music sound different. i'd always go for the Technics with 80's dance music:) :)

it was a hard choice for me & i have kept it so many years after 80's boom in legendary Music. It was just sitting idle & corrosion could creep in & leakage of components can happen. It even came in with an AT155-LC head **sigh**

I realy like the sounds of the 80's & I still have most of the artist of that time though now in digital format. I guess we really have to move on...

@Jimmy with that price now that $700K is about P4.5M, roughly the same price of what i'm holding now :D

So far the biggest disaster in my gear was when our house cleaner was instructed by my wife to clean my audio room. She broke the stylus in my Cleaudio Titanium. :( :( I've never felt so weak in my knees. Just to give you an idea, it felt like going up the empire state bldg with your hard earned DSLR, and accidentally dropping it OFF the bldg.

OMG! I remember my dad taking care of his audio-technica needles (is it the right term) for his Thorenz phonograph way back in the 80's.

At home, we just have a simple setup of solid state amp + tube pre-amp + 20-bit CD player that has served us for ages already (dad isn't to high-end audio anymore)

that is painful,,,I can just imagine how weak your knees got. Mind is pretty flappy reading your post.

Its nice to see a lot of photographers into audio. I am also a lover of audio from car to home hi fi. Im one of the few guys running a player in the car w/ a bb tube glowing at the center of the head. Anyhow audio is such an expensive hobby that I always have to remind myself that music is 1st but there are companies out there that just deliver their product with such excellence that it captures your mind and heart. So many good brands its wild!!! I alwyas have a positive mood whenever I get to test equipment coz there is no perfect sound. We all have diff takes on what sound should be like so instead of being technical I really get into the vibe and just enjoy the pleasure it gives me.... Putting up a good combo is ART and there are things that sound good together and its just up to the listener to find the right components!!

here i am sound tripping to Ziggy :) huffn and puffn

I miss my SL1200 MKII with AT155LC head :(
specially when I saw a lot of records still being sold here in HK

I know how it felt Willy. I had a pair of MK3 back in the early 90s. Then I decided to sell them in 1998 when I stopped DJing and because I focused on home theater and car audio. But in 2000, I missed spinning and the feel of the 1200. I just had to get a pair again. Now I specialize in Technics custom works. From repaints, calibration, custom designs, parts replacements and other modifications.

I'm sure you can find a good 2nd hand pair in HK fr a good price.

By the way, here are some of the decks I have done.

OMG disaster
