I finally managed to make this old flash of my dad's running again (cleaned contact points in the unit). Now I'm having some difficulty in making it run. I read the manual but the guide there's for the newer flash models.
Any hints there?

Ok, the difficulties I'm having is that
a.) I set the camera's settings to auto (or any programmed mode), while off and slid on the flash.
I then turned on the camera, and set the flash's settings to Program, and when I tried shooting it didn't flashed.
b.) There's some green stuff in the contacts and I removed them, is it bad (that green stuff)?
Right now I use it as a strobe that I manually (hehehe) had to fire off when taking shots.

Hi Adrian,
The green stuff must be grime and should be scraped, sanded or rubbed off. That my keep the flash and the camera from communicating.
Try setting the camera on manual (M), with the shutter speed between 1/60 - 1/125 and see if the flash fires when you shoot something (that's assuming that you cleaned off the green stuff). Then let's take it from there.

Thanks! my flash now works perfectly (I won't have to buy the newer model flashes much earlier than I should).... now I'll get myself a tripod and a telly lens in the meantime :)

Is it worth buying this (I already have a 540FGZ)? I saw one for sale and I was thinking of using this as an optical slave or something.
:)

Only if its really cheap. Power wise it does really hold much of a candle (pardon the pun).

Bidding started at 300 pesos... what the max bid for a fully functional example? :)

Not bad. I remember seeing something around $25 somewhere in eBay. I have one too, rarely use it but am too lazy to sell it. I figure at around P500 (maybe even less) I'd spend the same amount just selling it (you know, gas/pamasahe/pang kape...)
:D
