View Full Version : New Edits Mindoro Seascapes
dave_trinidad 09-08-2006, 02:57 AM Been to Oriental Mindoro to shoot some dusks and dawns this week. The place is a paradise for photographers. I went to 4 different places in my 4-day shooting stint.
Im testing my new Sigma 10-20mm, new angles and slower shutter speeds. I'm trying some new post-processing too. I'll appreciate your comments. I hope to add some more photos later.

Fishermen Blur: I setup a tripod to be able to use slow shutter speed. I would like to convey movement. Metered the background to sihouette the fishermen.

Those are photos that you can just stare at
caloy_samson 09-08-2006, 09:25 AM Dave, these pix are great. I like the first pic in your first post the most.
jay jallorina 09-08-2006, 09:55 AM sir dave, i just love how expansive your view of the world is...looking at your pictures makes me gape in wonder...
chewychua 09-08-2006, 02:11 PM wow dave... i like the Drama of the Sea... it's like a volcanic eruption.... like skull island... like the mt. doom... wow!
dave_trinidad 09-08-2006, 05:40 PM wow dave... i like the Drama of the Sea... it's like a volcanic eruption.... like skull island... like the mt. doom... wow!
I've just realized how much colors are hidden beneath the darkness. It was really dark when I was shooting this batch. Can't even see in my viewfinder if my horizon was straight! The legs of my tripod were all wet and the wind was drizzling moist on my lens.
I just kept on bracketing my shots: aperture, speed and even WB to make sure I get the right exposure. To my surprise almost all of the shots came out ok, different moods, different colors. Now, I don't even know which one was the "right" exposure.
@to all who commented, thanks so much. Really, "inspired people, inspire people!"
levi lacandula 09-08-2006, 10:44 PM really nice set. the first photo is so neat!!:)

Giovanni de la Cruz 09-09-2006, 12:26 AM Wow! These are great. You guys have some awesome cloud formations over there.

DoN SeViLLa 09-11-2006, 03:07 AM wonderful photos esp the last one
Reyno Rosete 09-11-2006, 04:18 AM Well done Dave.
Ruel Tafalla 09-11-2006, 11:47 AM amazing use of a WA lens..great images..
dave_trinidad 09-11-2006, 11:57 AM Nice gallery you got there! Love the "sea" pictures.
Question: Which among the 17-35 and 10-20 do you prefer for landscapes?
Regards.[/QUOTE]
if I have the distance and I still can get the angle I want, i prefer the 17-35. it's clarity is superb over the Sigma (IMHO).
if i'm near and want to capture a bit of forground and would like to use a smaller aperture (like f/16 up), slower speeds like (1 sec and slower), I'll go for the sigma.
I'm just having problem with vignetting occuring in the 10mm focal length of the Sigma when i'm using multiple filters like polarizer and neutral density. This does not happen with the 17-35mm nikkor (which is my favorite).
Hope it helps. (cut and pasted this from another thread, if its ok,)
dave_trinidad 11-30-2006, 10:46 AM my passion intensifies everyday. :D

dave_trinidad 11-30-2006, 11:01 AM great shots as always sir PDave... :)
Did you use spherize on the last set sir?
yes Jake! been experimenting on that a lot lately. there's so many combinations of spherizing and cropping. may binabagayan din (it looks good on others but not on others.:) )
jake_amora 11-30-2006, 11:35 AM Well, they definite look good on your photos sir, especially on "morning meditation". :)

hochi_abaya 12-01-2006, 10:40 PM really nice set dave! this is the reason why i also bought the sigma 10-20, but i have yet to have an opporunity to take these kind of shots

BEFORE AND AFTER
here's the "before". No PP, and horizon still tilted. Shot in Large file (not raw). I was running out of CF. hehe - mortal sin.

Daybreak Fishing (before PP)
here's the "AFTER", edited version.
i'm experimenting on vibrant, bold colors now in my landscapes, very different from 2 months ago.
i use shadow/highlight a lot and curves. not anymore using color saturation much because it turns out saturated already. again, i used a very slight spherizing.

Daybreak Fishing (after PP)
There's a lot that can be done in post-processing. It's really a matter of taste and style after all.
taks paler 12-02-2006, 04:08 AM thanks for the tips...:)
Jared Posion 12-02-2006, 06:22 AM daveT, very vibrant set.... pa join naman sa shoots mo....nagsosolo ka! haha
