Olympus' E-3 DSLR (http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/16/olympus-e-3-dslr-is-officially-official/) may not have been released yet, but that hasn't stopped the folks at LetsGoDigital from getting a hands-on with the camera, which they got to check out at an Olympus junket in Istanbul, Turkey. More specifically, they got to check out a pre-production model of the camera, although judging from the picture above and the sample shots at the read link below, it sure appears to be pretty close to the real thing. They are still reserving final judgment 'til they get their hands on a production model, however, but sure do seem to have been impressed by the camera, saying that while it's not a professional DSLR camera, "it certainly has the features of a professional one." They were also especially impressed with the camera's waterproof construction and, most importantly, the quality of the images captured, which you can check out for yourself at the link below.

I had a hands on experience of E3 this afternoon and the grip to my hand is really nice. The body size is really big compared to the E510. I was actually surprised by the size of E510 because if I compare it to my Pentax *ist DS2 in spec, the E510 size a lot bigger. E3 viewfinder is a lot bigger compared to E510 but still a bit smaller compared to DS2 viewfinder. The 12-60mm lens is really fast in focusing even when fitted to E510. I could not actually feel the speed difference when I used it in E3. E3 is also very heavy compared to E510. I was looking for the Pana/Leica 14-150mm but the Oly team didn't bother to bring one in their exhibit.

The E-3 has been released in many markets abroad. If it was a pre-production camera that they used, the only difference is the firmware version. If they really said that it's not a pro camera, I think they are clueless.

About the tough weather sealing, the E-1 also has it. ;-)
